Your child will take home a hard copy of most of these resources, but I have added them here for your convenience.Β A few additional resources you may find helpful can also be found here, such as the letter-group and sight-word flash cards.
This alphabet chart is used for writing, phonics, and reading instruction.
We have a picture clue and hand gesture to go along with each letter. The picture clues and gesture are found on these flashcards. We learn a song that helps us remember all of the letters, sounds, and hand gestures!
Our phonics program divides the alphabet into 5 letter groups. We will learn the alphabet according to these letter groups. Please click the buttons below to access the flash cards for each of these letter groups.
43 Words
There are 43 high-frequency words to learn in kindergarten. They were commonly referred to as 'sight words' because of how readers need to recognize them by sight, as they largely cannot be successfully sounded out.
You will largely hear us refer to these words now as heart words because of how they are taught. The tricky parts that needs to be committed to memory ("know it by heart") are noted with a heart. The remainder of the word can be easily decoded. Mastering these words will help your child become more confident and fluent in reading.
These heart words are divided into 8 lists. We begin instruction in November with the first list. You can find the words we are currently learning in our class weekly newsletter, which is available on this website and sent on Seesaw every Monday.Β
