HONOR SOCIETIES
ABOUT HONOR SOCIETIES
Honor societies are organizations that recognize academic achievement and offer benefits to those who meet the organization's eligibility requirements. Students must be invited to become a member of an honor society. Membership in an honor society may be based on grade point average, credits completed, academic program, or other criteria. Most honor societies require a membership or initiation fee. Student Life sponsors three types of honor societies: program related honor societies, affinity and identity related societies, and those that recognize general achievement.
It is incumbent upon the student to evaluate any honor society invitation for its value to their education and their career, and to balance that value with any financial investment. Virtually all honor societies require an initiation fee to become a member, but each society provides different levels of service and recognition for that fee. At Purdue Global, we strive to partner only with reputable groups who offer programming, scholarships, networks, or other benefits that we believe are of value to our students. Only the honor societies listed below have an official relationship with Purdue Global and have been vetted for legitimacy and merit.
If you have any questions about an honor society invitation, please contact Student Life for more information.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are honor societies legitimate?
Student Life partners only with legitimate honor societies that provide positive opportunities for our students at a reasonable cost. It is entirely up to you whether you choose to accept any invitation to an honor society, after you have done your due diligence in researching its mission and what it can offer you.
What is the cost to belong to an honor society?
Student Life develops partnerships with honor societies based on the benefits that the organization can offer our students. We are committed to providing the best opportunities at a reasonable cost. We have chosen to partner only with those organizations that charge $100 or less for a lifetime membership. It is up to you to determine whether the benefits of membership match the cost of membership, by reviewing the society's website and other research.
What are the benefits of belonging to an honor society?
Different honor societies provide different benefits. Most offer networking opportunities amongst members. Others may offer leadership training, career mentoring, or other resources that can help you in your chosen field. Being a member of an honor society can also provide evidence of your academic achievement and leadership skills for your resume.
One of the most important benefits of joining an honor society is the relationships that you will build with your fellow PG students. Most honor societies have Brightspace courserooms, just like all student organizations, where you can interact with your peers. Leadership opportunities, such as elected officer positions, are also available.
I think I'm eligible for an honor society. Why didn't I get an invitation?
There are multiple reasons why you might be eligible for an honor society but did not receive an invitation. First, each honor society has only two invitation cycles per year. Your eligibility may not have lined up with the invitation cycle. Second, you must be an active student at the time invitations are issued. If you are on LOA or inactive for any other reason, you will not be eligible until you return to active status.
Why can't I access the membership application?
You will need to sign into your PG account in order to access membership applications. Sometimes, opening the form in an incognito window may also help you access the form.
