Student’s Giving Back
Here are a few stories of how Purdue Global students are stepping up to help their communities during COVID-19.
Holly helped her honor society (NSCS) raise $12,000 for college students experiencing financial hardship as a result of the loss of a scholarship, housing, work, etc.
Lisa, a student in Autism Speaks U, is volunteering 35-40 hours a week as a crisis counselor to help those struggling to deal with the various issues caused to families and individuals by the coronavirus.
Carl helps homeless individuals get meals and takes them to the shelter to stay and keep safe.
Erica, the President of the Student Advisory Board, stepped in for a fellow staff member, who is high-risk due to health issues and pregnancy, to help with 10 different locations where she has been delivering medication, dropping off supplies, and taking several clients grocery shopping.
Kimberly, the President of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, is serving with the American Red Cross to relay communications of need between the county emergency management agency (EMA) and the regional ARC chapter for emergencies or disasters not related to the pandemic. She is on call 24/7 helping to handle virtual appointments for residents who may face other emergencies (house fire, flood, tornado, etc.) and need assistance from the ARC during the pandemic.
These are just a few small snapshots showing how students are getting involved to make their communities better.
Celebration!
Two student leaders have taken the opportunity through Student Life to take the not for credit course, LC100. By passing all of their modules, they were then able to sit for the CS204X assessment, in which both passed and received 3 free credits! Read a bit about their experiences below.
Kimberly: I joined in co-curricular activities because they provide a method to connect with other students outside the classroom setting. The benefits of being involved in co-curricular activities include, learning about and developing leadership skills, honing those leadership skills, networking with people from around the world, awards and scholarships, and earning free credits by taking the CS204X assessment course. My advice is if you have any troubles, reach out to your professors right away; they do not bite. If you will not be able to complete an assignment on time for a valid reason, reach out before the last day and also include your plan to finish it with an approximate timeline.
Doris: I choose to gain more experience and meet my peers while learning as much as I could outside of the classroom. Well, first I received my three credits but I worked for those credits also. It was taxing but enlightening at the same time. Advice I would give to others? Set your mind to it. Do the best you can. Utilize all the extras available such as the writing center. Join a group in your degree and get to know your peers and your community.
Honor Society Information 2020
Each honor society will release two invitations in 2020. Please see the scheduled release month below, along with the number of students who have joined honor societies so far this year. Please note Communications/Marketing determines the specific invitation dates.

Updates on Student Life
Esports Club
The mission of Esports is to provide an organized Esports league in a virtual environment to foster healthy competition. Skills developed through Esports are strategic thinking, teamwork, collaboration, goal setting, preparation, and managing success and failure – not to mention quick reflexes. PG has started an Esports team for the game League of Legends (LoL). This team currently competes in the college LoL tournaments, with hope that we can expand to other games. To learn more or join, please go to our membership form.
Analytics Club
The Analytics Club was established to educate our IT students in all things related to data science and analytics so they will be better prepared for job interviews and can include important credentials on their resumes, providing an edge against other applicants. To learn more or join, please go to our membership form.
Supply Chain Students’ Club
This club will serve the students who are interested in supply chain management. It will be a place where the students can discuss supply chain management related topics, provide feedback to the faculty in shaping the concentration, and organize activities promoting supply chain learning. To learn more or join, please access our membership form.
Career Corner
In this time of changes and uncertainties, we need to continue to motivate and help students remain focused on their professional development. Here are some useful tips to share with students.
In this time of disruption caused by COVID-19, you may find yourself overwhelmed and uncertain about all the changes. You may have to find new routines, adjust to the new “normal,” and put certain things on hold. As you navigate through the uncertainties and figuring out new routines, try not to forget about your career goals or put your professional development on hold. Rather, take this opportunity to improve yourself and make progress towards your professional goals. Here are some tips to consider:
Maintain an online presence. Update your social media profiles and start networking with recruiters and hiring managers. As you may not be able to network face to face due to social distancing, you can utilize sites like LinkedIn to network with industry professionals and follow official pages of organizations that you would like to work for. You can also request a virtual informational interview to learn about a specific area of interest.
Join a professional organization and stay abreast of current industry trends.
Keep your documents up to date. Although the process may take longer, employers are still hiring, so it is important to have an updated resume before applying to any position.
Get comfortable with virtual interviewing as most hiring managers are conducting virtual interviews to minimize face-to-face interactions.
Lastly, there’s a wealth of information and resources available on the CareerNetwork. Click on this video to learn about all the resources that are available to you and how you can partner with Career Services through the CareerNetwork.
Student Organization Involvement
The following graph includes important data points. If there is additional information or data that you would like to receive, please notify the Office of Student Life at studentlife@purdueglobal.edu.
Data Explanation: Unique student count is the number of individual students who are involved in an organization at Purdue University Global. Involvement Touch Points are the number of memberships in student organizations. Therefore, this number reflects students who may be involved in multiple organizations.
Please note, our numbers do not include Concord Law students at this time. This is being addressed and will be updated as soon as possible.
