Indiana Supreme Court Decision Moves Purdue Global Law School Forward

The Indiana Supreme Court has approved an amendment to Admission & Discipline Rule 13 that creates a path for Purdue Global Law School graduates to become eligible for the state’s bar exam.

The ruling, issued Thursday (Feb. 15), allows graduates of schools not accredited by the American Bar Association to petition for a waiver to take the Indiana bar exam. The ABA has long required a physical campus for accreditation. Now the state’s rules will allow a law school graduate who did not attend an ABA-approved school to apply for admission to the Indiana bar.

Indiana becomes the second state, after California, in which Purdue Global law graduates will be eligible, following a waiver application, for the bar exam immediately upon graduating. Read more about this exciting announcement.

A Heroic Moment in the Army Led Me Back to School at Purdue Global

As an active service member in the Army, Dustin had a life-saving moment that pushed him to earn his degree. He’s sharing his story and why he chose Purdue Global to move him forward in his military career.

After I graduated from college, I worked for Chrysler for almost a decade. But then I realized that, while I loved turning a wrench, it wasn’t very much of a challenge for me. Trying to make a career change at 29 years old, I felt I needed to be confident in my choice. So, after contemplating it for about a year, I figured it was about time. And now I’ve just hit my ninth year as an active service member in the Army.

In the same way I knew I wanted to join the military, I always knew I wanted to go back to school. I just couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do. In high school, I was a volunteer firefighter. Still to this day that is a job that I really miss doing, so I was thinking of doing something fire science related. Then in 2017, I had a moment that pushed me to get my degree. CESL Fellows Build Momentum with Centralized Support

As the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning (CESL) approaches its three-year anniversary, the team continues to make great strides towards expanding Purdue Global's service-learning opportunities.

This month brought positive developments for CESL's growth. With ongoing assistance from the Provost's Office, crucial backing has been pledged for centralizing and guiding the Center under strong leadership in the coming year. They have assembled a transition team of experienced staff across key areas like Student Life, Academics, and Learning & Leadership Development. This group will facilitate several critical areas for CESL including securing permanent funding and oversight, administering and expanding the ACES program, continuing the Service-Learning Fellows initiative, building scalable and consistent processes across schools, and devising wider communication strategies.

CESL has already found a home base for its PG190 course overseen by the Student Life team. The Transition Team is also well-connected across the university to assist with relaunching marketing campaigns that highlight service-learning's community impact and unique project opportunities through ACES certification. Fellows will benefit from the Team's knowledge and archive support as they continue developing curricula and undertaking engaged scholarship activities in 2024-2025.

With coordination centrally guided by the Provost's office and the assembled transition experts, CESL is poised to increase its university-wide presence and become an integral part of the PG student experience across disciplines in its third year and beyond. It's an exciting time for service-learning! We'll be spotlighting more updates in future editions of the Monday Minute.
