University Spotlight

Sara Sander

Enrollment, Experiences, and Employment Opportunities Inspire SBS Dean

Sara Sander recalls the time in 1994 when she was pursuing her master’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Administrators needed someone to teach a night class.

“I remember thinking, ‘I’ll do it. I’ll try it.’ The class was filled with adult learners, and I loved it,” Sander says. “They had focus and determination, and it really meshed well with my teaching. Every chance I got, I taught those night classes. I knew then that working with adult learners is where I wanted to be.”

Sander now serves as Dean and Vice President of Purdue Global’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS), and she is Interim Dean of the School of Aviation. Read more about Sara.

PG News and Updates

One Week Until PGLA Launch

We are a week away from launching The Purdue Global Learning Assistant (PGLA) V.1.0 Purdue Global's first internally developed, AI-powered conversational interface that will provide students with a virtual assistant designed to augment learning in the classroom, provide real-time feedback, and a connection to student services. Today, the PGLA will help students navigate the course with feedback on policies, assignment due dates, and specific unit discussion board requirements. It can also connect students with a student success coach via an intake form.

As we approach the track 2401C pilot launch, it's crucial to keep in mind the following key points:

The classes selected for the PGLA pilot launch represent a diverse group of learners across various education levels, including first-year undergraduate and doctoral-level students. Faculty members piloting the PGLA in their courses/sections have already begun training, covering expectations for the pilot, PGLA functions, and limitations.

As we think about the critical milestones needed to get to this successful launch, none were more critical than ensuring that the faculty involved with the pilot were satisfied with the efficacy of the PGLA. In that regard, we are pleased to share that the PGLA has successfully passed User Acceptance Testing (UAT) at the course level, demonstrating its ability to answer course-related questions accurately. Furthermore, it has passed testing for accessibility, diversity, equity and inclusion, and with student success pending. As we eagerly anticipate the launch of the PGLA V.1.0, we are excited about our first step into using AI to impact student success.

Mid-Year Goal Check-Ins

In keeping with the annual spring performance management cycle, the start of the new calendar year is our mid-year check on the progress we’ve made toward our individual and collective goals.

If you and your manager haven’t already done so, please take a moment to review the goals you set together last July. Whether they are related to professional development, team projects, or broader organizational objectives, evaluate where you stand and identify any adjustments or additional support needed.

Theo Gilmore Jr.

Mentor Using Skills Learned to Prepare Teens for Success

Growing up in Demopolis, Alabama, Theo Gilmore Jr. was like most other kids, whose days were spent playing basketball, enjoying time with friends and his dad, and looking for a pathway to his dreams.

His dreams of pursuing an education and career in youth mentorship led him to Indianapolis and Ivy Tech. “I knew I wanted to work with kids,” he said. “I had to find a way to do something involving kids, so I enrolled at Ivy Tech looking at human services.”

Gilmore had a vision beyond his time spent at Ivy Tech, though. His vision fit into the Pathways Partnership developed by Ivy Tech and Purdue Global leaders, who were working to make Ivy Tech associate degrees 100% transferrable to Purdue Global for bachelor’s degrees. Learn more about Theo.
