More Than 2,200 Graduates Celebrate Their Accomplishments at October Commencement Ceremonies

Building a dream and believing it will come true are what Kahil Cole (MBA ’22) believes leads to success, and that was his message to his fellow Purdue Global graduates on Saturday (Oct. 21).

Cole’s keynote address centered on six building blocks – leadership, vision, communication, accountability, consistency and execution – which he presented to the nearly 1,400 in-person graduates and 850 graduates participating in virtual ceremonies.

The graduates, including 393 Indiana residents, are representative of all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia. Eighteen countries were represented as well, including Aruba, the Bahamas, Canada, China, India, Peru, the Philippines and Zimbabwe. There were 329 graduates affiliated with the military. Fifty-five systemwide Purdue University employees were among those earning a Purdue Global degree or certificate via the Purdue Global education benefit

Saturday’s ceremonies marked Purdue Global’s 18th commencement since its formation in 2018. Read more about Commencement Weekend.

Purdue Global Selected by Gardner Institute to Join Inaugural Cohort

Purdue Global has been selected to participate in a new national initiative, Transforming the Foundational Postsecondary Experience, which aims to transform the critical first two years of college education when students create the foundation for ultimate success and degree completion. The effort will help institutions focus on inequitable performance gaps and take action to improve student learning and success.

Led by the Gardner Institute, a leading national student success nonprofit organization, this initiative has been made possible in part through the support of Ascendium Education Group, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, ECMC Foundation and the Kresge Foundation. School of Health Sciences Achieves CAHIIM Accreditation

The School of Health Sciences is proud to announce that it has achieved accreditation through the Commission for Accreditation of Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) for both the graduate Digital Health Leader and the undergraduate Digital Health Professional certificates. Competencies for both the graduate and undergraduate certificates were developed by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and were approved by the CAHIIM Board of Directors.

Dr. Zeynep Behjet, Chair for the Masters in Health Information Management and Health Informatics programs who also supervises the Digital Health programs states, “This prestigious recognition is a testament to the unwavering dedication and exceptional efforts of our faculty, staff, and students. This accreditation milestone underscores our ongoing commitment to delivering the highest quality education to our students, preparing them for successful careers in the dynamic field of digital health."

As relayed in the CAHIIM standards, the field of Digital Health is the intersection of healthcare, business administration, and information technology. The Digital Health Professional and Digital Health Leader certificates, at the baccalaureate and graduate levels, respectively, are designed to prepare students, in a variety of disciplines, for leadership roles in the digital healthcare space.

The required courses in the Digital Health Professional certificate are included in the Bachelor of Health Information Management program which automatically affords all students who complete the required courses this designation. Students in the Master of Health Informatics program will need to take one elective in addition to the four courses embedded in the program in order to achieve the Digital Health Leader certificate. The Digital Health Leader certificate is also able to be obtained by completing a Micro-credential.

We are proud to be part of this newly launched accreditation and look forward to assisting students in achieving their educational and professional goals.

Keynote Speaker to Purdue Global grads: Keep Building Your Dreams

"Build the dream.

"I believe in the power of building a dream and know firsthand that dreams come true every day. As I look at all of you, it is confirmation of believing in a purpose and building on your own dreams. Some of the key building blocks are leadership, vision, communication, accountability, consistency and, of course, execution. My journey getting my MBA at Purdue Global was firmly established with a dream!

"Leadership comes with a price. You often make decisions that impact those closest to you. Many times you don’t get the opportunity to explain the decisions made, and often you’re misunderstood. Like many graduating today, I enrolled in 10 p.m. Eastern courses to make sure I could support the needs at home. I also would change my newborn while trying to stay engaged in the chat to gain credit for attendance." Read the rest of Keynote Speaker Kahil Cole's speech.

Thumbs Up to Angela Ask

Angela Ask, Adjunct Faculty, School of Health Sciences received a thumbs up from Christopher Gallucci, Department Chair, School of Health Sciences, for the consistent praise and recognition she receives from her students. A recent email reads, “From my first class … she has been an inspiration to me. Professor Ask is such a compassionate instructor and goes above and beyond with her students. Professor Ask makes her students feel comfortable, never rushes us, answers every question — big or small — and always provides a positive and enlightening classroom experience. She posts questions and challenges her students to dig deeper into the topics while providing positive feedback and constructive criticism. There are no words to describe how grateful I am for teachers like this. I have had teachers in the past that have made me second-guess going back to school, but this one professor is the reason why I stay and keep striving to do my best to succeed.” Congratulations, Angela!

The next time you encounter a particularly helpful colleague, you can submit them for a Thumbs Up recognition. Visit PGNet to learn more and to nominate someone who makes Purdue Global a great place to work.
