Did you know that Prof. Anderson (howard.anderson@purdueglobal.edu) hosts a monthly book club? In it, students consider famous works as future lawyers. Students read famous legal-related works as future lawyers. While your seminars discuss legal rules, the book club considers broader questions about legal history, professionalism, and justice. For example, why is the criminal standard of proof that of “proof beyond a reasonable doubt,” rather than something lower or higher? What makes a lawyer a “good” one? Is it ever “right” to do something “illegal”—or “wrong” to do something “legal”? Besides providing a forum to talk about such questions, the book club also aims, indirectly, to help students improve their writing. Good writers are good readers. The selections are examples of good writing that will help students develop an “eye” for editing their own work.
Meetings are open to everyone. Indeed, several regular participants are 1L students. The discussion is informal.
The meetings take place on Zoom, at the end of each month (on rotating Saturdays and Sundays). You can find the dates on our PGLS calendar or the PG 675 Brightspace Course. For those who cannot attend live, the meetings are recorded on the SBA Brightspace page.
Virtual Study Halls are a dedicated, distraction-free Zoom rooms for students enrolled in similar courses to connect, review material, stay on track together, or simply just a space to stay focused on reviewing school materials.
Each Virtual Study Hall is organized by class level (1L, 2L, 3L, and 4L) and will be held weekly. Whether you're reviewing case briefs, refining outlines, studying materials from the Academic Resource Center (ARC), or preparing for the Bar Exam, these sessions are your space to connect with peers, stay focused, and grow together.
