The CA Bar Examiners say that law students are "encouraged to submit a moral character application no later than the beginning of their last year of law study." This is because the delay in receiving a positive moral character determination will delay your ability to be admitted to the CA Bar, which means you'll have a delay in your ability to practice law in California. The CA Bar says that determination regarding moral character may take "six months or longer to complete."
We advise students to fill the Moral Character application as soon they start Capstone I.

The Legal Education Experience Program (LEEP) is an opportunity to have a real-life legal experience prior to graduating from PG Law School. This is your chance to gain practical skills under the supervision of an attorney. The program allows you to work “in the field” for academic credit. LEEP is for upper-division students (3L or 4L JD students) and (2L or 3L EJD students). Students are required to have a 2.0 CGPA and have room in their degree for 2 credits of open electives. You can speak to your Advisor if you have any questions. For more information about the program, here is an FAQ sheet, a short video and a recorded panel discussion. Here is the application.
We offer three options for students interested in Independent Study. CL836 is the 2 credit Health Law Independent Study course. This course has a pre-requisite of CL830: Health Law, and there is no minimum CGPA requirement for CL836. CL890 and CL892 are our 2 and 4 credit Independent Study options, and these both require a 2.75 CGPA. These courses satisfy open elective credits within the degree.
Please make sure you have the requisite CGPA, open elective credits, and approval from a faculty sponsor before filling out this application (including approval of paper topic). You can contact your Adivsor with any questions.
From a student who completed Independent Study—first-hand advice and perspective:
One of the most surprising and rewarding aspects of this exercise was how it brought together everything I’ve studied—cybersecurity, cyber law, AI law, and even intellectual property law—into a cohesive understanding. It also gave me the opportunity to incorporate my own personal research and professional experience. Through this process, I’ve developed a more directional, rather than purely prescriptive, perspective on legislative and policy development—an insight I’m genuinely excited about. I would highly recommend this experience to Executive JD students in particular. It really helps clarify your area of focus and how it aligns with your long-term professional goals. I’ve become a much more thoughtful and capable reader, and my understanding of complex topics has deepened significantly through my education. I’m also far more confident in tackling challenging subjects and diving deep into research. Even with all the work I’ve already done, I still have dozens of books I’ve purchased and set aside—each one aligned with my evolving interests. Overall, it’s been an amazing experience. It definitely pushes you, so it’s important to be ready for that—but it’s well worth the effort.
