Choir Introduction for 8th Graders

What should I expect?

Be prepared for a structured rehearsal that includes warm-ups, sight reading practice, and singing a variety of choral songs.  Everyone sings every day!  In addition, each choir learns about 12 songs per year.

What extracurricular events do you have?

There are only two required concerts per semester for Concert Choir.   However, there are several other optional events such as the talent show, Christmas caroling, KMEA Festival Assessment, EKU Honors Choir, SKMA All-Festival Choir, All-State Choir, at least one overnight trip, and a variety of opportunities to see other groups (high school and professional) perform.

What kind of music do you sing?

We try to do a variety of music that is appropriate for high school choirs.  In fall, we sing some traditional, gospel, and popular holiday songs.  In the spring, we do a couple of more serious selections for KMEA Festival Assessment.  Then students get to help pick pop or country songs for the spring concert.

Will there be a chance for me to sing solos?

Yes, the choir hosts a talent show each year.  This is a great opportunity to sing solos, play a musical instrument, dance, or show off any other talent!  Occasionally the choral songs will include a solo.  Ms. Braun will hold auditions for these.

What should I sign up for?

You should select Concert Choir A and B when you make out your schedule for next year.  This is PCHS’s biggest choir and is open for anyone to join.  We actually have an Advanced Chamber Choir and an Advanced Treble Choir at PCHS too.  Though these groups are usually filled more with upperclassmen,  but freshmen are welcome to audition after school on March 20th.  Go to https://sites.google.com/pulaski.kyschools.us/2021-spring-choir-eventsw/advanced-choir-auditions for more information.
