1.1 Schools must register for the competition from 1st November to 30th November, 2022.
1.2 The registration should be done online by filling in the e-entry form at: http://gg.gg/YoungLearnersStorytelling
1.3 The registration for the competition will open at 6:00 a.m. on 1st November, 2022 and close at 11:59 p.m. on 30th November, 2022. Late entries will not be accepted.
1.4 The school name, address, contact teacher’s name, email and telephone must be clearly specified in the form.
1.5 Registration quota – The registration is limited to 50 schools on a first-come, first-served basis.
1.6 Successfully registered schools will receive notification by email. In addition, the participating school list will also be viewable on the Pui Ying Secondary School website.
1.7 The competition is school-based.
2.1 An introductory video will be uploaded to the Pui Ying Secondary School website on 20th October, 2022.
a. The introductory video will cover the format, process, and guidelines of the competition.
2.2 Participating students will be put into one of the following categories based on their levels. Division of the categories and the groups are specified in Table 1 below:

Category 3: Primary 5 and Primary 6 students
2.3. There will be only ONE round in the competition:
A. Written stories
i. Each participating school can only submit a maximum of 10 stories per category. Each participating student from that school can submit only one story.
ii. The written and video-recorded stories should be submitted together with the registration for adjudication from 1st November, 2022 to 30th November, 2022. Stories submitted after 30th November, 2022 will not be considered for adjudication.
iii. The stories should be submitted online through the registration Google form:
http://gg.gg/YoungLearnersStorytelling.
iv. The stories should be submitted either in Microsoft Word or PDF format. The maximum size of each submitted file should NOT exceed 10 MB.
v. Results will be announced on 5th January, 2023.
vi. Submitted stories should be written in English as per the specifications in Table 2 below:

Word count (excluding space and punctuation):
Category 1: 80-110
Category 2: 110-130
Category 3: 130-160
vii. The title of the story is excluded from the above word count.
viii.The stories should be typed.
ix. The font for English must be “Times New Roman”.
x. The font size should be 12 points.
xi. All stories must be original and must not have been published anywhere in print or digitally, prior to submission to this competition.
xii. All stories submitted for this competition will be subject to a plagiarism check and plagiarised submissions will be disqualified.
xiii. The content of the story must not include any reference to the student’s identity or name of the school.
xiv. Any stories with obscene, violent, malicious or discriminatory elements or involving publicity of or advocating any persons or groups and illegal and unlawful act shall be disqualified.
xv. Any request for the change or amendment of the stories after submission will not be accepted.
xvi. Final editorial rights of the submitted stories will be reserved by Pui Ying Secondary School.
xvii. The judging criteria of the written story is outlined in Table 3.
i. The participant must perform their own written stories.
a. Each participant is required to memorize and narrate his/ her own story.
b. All parts of the story must be narrated as written with no significant alteration to the original text.
c. Visual or audio-visual aids including props, pictures, music, costume and makeup are not permitted during the performance.
d. Participants will be given no certificates if they (i) fail to perform the whole piece of the story, or (ii) violate the rules listed above.
ii. Participants will have a maximum five minutes to deliver their written story. Time will start when a participant starts narrating the story.
iii. Their performance must be video recorded and submitted for adjudication.
a. The video entries for the competition should be uploaded on YouTube and set as unlisted (anyone who gets the link can watch and share the video). Participants should share the link with Pui Ying Secondary School by filling in an online submission form. The submission form will be available on the Pui Ying Secondary School website https://sites.google.com/puiying.edu.hk/hkyounglearnersstorytelling from 6:00 a.m. on 1st November, 2022 to 11:59 p.m. on 30th November, 2022
b. The video URL must be accessible until 30th December, 2022 so as to allow adjudication.
c. If the video cannot be played during the period of adjudication, regardless of reasons, students will not receive any certificates.
d. The performer in the video must be the student who has entered the competition. Participants failing to comply will be disqualified.
e. Participants must perform the whole piece once. If a participant repeatedly performs the same piece in a video, only the first performance will be adjudicated.
f. The video must be a single shot video footage. No special effects are permitted, such as adding soundtracks, audio, pictures, text, filters, transitions, color adjustments, light adjustments, subtitles, special effects, etc. No editing or post-production is permitted. Participants failing to comply will be disqualified.
g. The resolution of the video should be 720p (1280x 720) or above.
h. The entire video must clearly show the participant’s full body, appearance and actions.
i. When shooting, the camera should be stable without any camera movement.
j. Landscape mode should be used.
iv. The submissions will be adjudicated by independent jury members.
v. The judging criteria for the video-recorded performance is outlined in Table 4.
vi. Three stories with the highest scores of written and video recorded (the total mark is 200) from each category will be selected. The winners will be awarded a trophy and a certificate. Other participants will be awarded a certificate of participation.
vii. Prizes will be presented to winners in the Award Presentation Ceremony to be held after the announcement of the winning schools of the competition.
