PHS DatabasesÂ
Databases are directories (kind of like search engines) that the school purchases. They contain articles, video, images, usually of an academic nature.
Tips for searching databases:
Use keywords (rather than sentences or questions)
Use filters like "content type" or "subject" or "date range" to narrow your search
Databases that contain academic journals will have research studies (as required on your task sheet)
EBSCO Academic Search Premier (Academic journals, newspapers, magazines)
Encyclopedia Britannica (Encyclopedia)
Gale Custom Newspapers (Newspaper articles)
Gale Science in Context (Encyclopedias, newspaper articles, magazine articles, academic journals)
New York Times (activate subscription using nytimes.com/passes)
ProQuest (Encyclopedias, magazines, academic journals)
Salem Psychology Behavioral Health (Encyclopedia for psychological terms i.e. "fear" "personality" )
Washington Post (Off campus, use "login help" to get username / password)
Google Searching
You can use more specific terms, questions, phrases
Filter by News articles to find different sources
If you are wondering if the source you want to use is a credible source, look up the source title or author separately. Wikipedia is a good place to check the credibility / purpose / history of a source.
