Our role as teachers is to scaffold our students to become proficient users of educational language which will allow them to access and interact with the curriculum throughout their school life. We must work with the child's personality and communication style to facilitate this development.
Articulation - opportunities to learn to produce all the sounds needed to speak and be understood in the school context. This will in turn support the learner to later read and spell words. - recast learners speech with the correct sounds. - Requires repetition and practise.
Syntactical rules. - understanding of the rules affecting the meaning based on word order.
Pragmatics - Give children an understanding of the different registers of language and how to choose appropriate oral (and written) language for their setting.
