Walt: Explain and show the recycling process
We are going to finish off the term looking at the ways in which we can recycle and show respect to our environment. We will link this back to all of the things that we have learnt over the term and focus on what we can do to make a difference and how we will continue to show respect for the rest of the year to our environment. As a school we are going to start recycling so will get the ball rolling by looking at what ways we can recycle and what recycling is.

Walt: Explain what it means to respect our oceans and everything in them.
This week we will be looking at animals that are endangered because of the pollution in our oceans and waterways. You will complete a reading with your teacher that will look at the ways in which these animals are endangered and what we can do to help. You will also have readings that will inform you about the facts of this and how serious it is becoming. Your create task will to create an advice column for a fish who's environment is in trouble from pollution and rubbish in our water.

This week we will be talking about rubbish in our water and what this is doing to our environment. We will watch a video about what rubbish is doing to our environment and as a class come up with some ways that we can protect our waterways in our community and how this links back to respect and our focus for this term. This week you will have your journal reading and also some online readings to show you the facts about rubbish in our water.

This week to get back into the routine of reading we are going to be looking at fiction stories and fairy tales. We will be trying to find the main ideas on our own and be able to retell the stories in our own words. You will need to read the story with your teacher and then complete the follow up activity.

This week we will be creating and sharing our personal mihi's in class. You will need to complete both of the readings and then create your own mihi.
Once you have completed this, you will need to practice and share your mihi with others in your literacy class.

What is year 5/6 camp?
Next week we are off to camp so this week we are going to discuss some of the things that we are looking forward to about camp and tell people what year 5/6 camp is all about.

This year our group names for reading will be kiwiana icons, this means items that are unique to New Zealand. Your group name is going to be Pāua, in other countries around the world they are sometimes known as something different. We are going to be learning about how Pāua are unique to New Zealand.
