This year we'll be exploring the importance of Tūrangawaewae (Our Place) and consider how we can each contribute and make a positive difference.
This term we'll look at tourism in the wider world. It'll link into science and geography as we learn more about different places. Towards the end of the term, we'll begin using lots of our new maths skills to create some accurately sized models of our own tourist attractions, built specifically for a certain place in the world.
We'll also learn more about different animals and their habitats.
This term we're considering why people choose to make New Zealand their Tūrangawaewae either permanently or maybe just for a holiday.
What kind of message are we (as New Zealanders) trying to send to the world about what New Zealand is like?
If we were creating a tourist attraction, what could we create that would attract people?
← Follow the instructions on this document to begin finding out about tourism in New Zealand and looking for trends across the country.
Once you've done this you can apply your new knowledge to design and plan a 3 day holiday for you and your family in this place. Read through the rest of the document to find out more details.
Now that we know why it is important to have a Tūrangawaewae and have considered the impact of not having one, we'll explore how our Tūrangawaewae has changed throughout history to become the place it is today.
Following our research, Dignan Street was the place most people wanted to investigate. Use the research resources to track down all you can about the history of Dignan Street then share your information on the collaborative Padlet page. Follow this link to get to the page.
Here's our email to send to an organisation to see if our idea is feasible.
What are some positives, negatives and interesting about each of our ideas? Add them to this doc
In groups we're going to find out what other people are already doing to help support homeless people. Follow the links from this file to get to your organisation's website.
