Here is a link to a website where you can find all of the Te Reo Singalong books/waiata that we have been learning.

Print out the sheet below and use these words and the words in the video to help you label each picture.
Te Rito/Pikopiko rā, kapua, ua, hau
Pōhutukawa/Kauri whiti te rā, puta ngā kapua, heke te ua, pupuhi te hau
Kōwhai/Totara Kei te whiti te rā. (The sun is shining.), Kei te puta ngā kapua. (The clouds are appearing.)
Kei te heke te ua. (The rain is falling), Kei te pupuhi te hau. (The wind is blowing.)
Here is a great website with short video clips covering the pronunciation of vowels and vowel combinations along with short videos explaining and modelling how to ask 'e hia?/how many?' etc
https://speakmaoriforkids.co.nz
Watch this video as Sharon Holt reads this story about tidying up and explains the new phrases and words.
Haere tonu = Keep going! Me whakapai = Let's clean up Whakahokia = put away or return
ngā mea = the things iti = small, little nui = big mā = white pango = black
ngohe = soft mārō = hard roa = long poto = short
Now listen to the story with music! Look around your own room and see the things that you could tidy up when you hear the words 'ngā mea iti', 'ngā mea pango' or 'ngā mea poto' etc.
Draw pictures or make a list of the things in your bedroom that fit the categories.
This episode of Papa Kāinga TV (7) screened during the last lockdown and uses a lot of language that we have already covered in our sessions. You might even find it easy!
names of body parts *ūpoko = māhunga & karu = whatu
the question "He aha tēnei? and how to answer it (you know that you can also add tēnā!)
Matua Te Mete reads a book Te Hāngi which introduces some new words for kai to learn.
The clip starts with a great karakia that Matua Te Mete wrote. He gives an explanation of its meaning at the very end but I am confident that some of you won't really need it. It is very similar to one you already know.

This waiata helped us learn simple verb phrases to describe what we or someone else is doing.
Do the actions as you sing along to the waiata! Draw a picture of yourself moving like an animal.
Can you follow the pattern and make up a new verse in Māori using the words in the waiata or the new ones below?
eg. Kei te __________ ahau, anō nei he ___________!
NEW VERBS ngaoki - to creep, crawl kauhoe - to swim
NOUNS noke - worm aihe - dolphin
Click the green button to see the slide deck of animals doing different things.
Read the sentences out aloud. Then write a sentence for each of the pictures on the final page/slide.
