On Monday, students will take a Spelling Pre-Test. These words will then be taken home and studied for their weekly Spelling Test on Friday. We will do some spelling practice in class, but they will need to practice at home in order to succeed in their spelling tests.
Every Friday, students will be sent home with a Reading Log. The expectation is 10 minutes of reading out loud to someone else each night, for a total of 50 minutes. This reading can be anything, chapter book, graphic novel, comic books, comics in the newspaper, anything they are interested in.
If you want to take it further, ask them just 1-2 comprehension questions after reading each night. Studies show that reading out loud for just 10 minutes a day improves memory, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and listening skills.
Blank reading logs are uploaded onto Google Classroom. If your child is absent and is not able to get one, forgets to grab one, or it somehow gets lost on the way from school to home.
Any other work brought home is work that is not finished in class, or makeup work. If any other homework is sent out, it will be communicated via remind, and will be given more than one night to complete.
All make-up work is due Friday of the week assigned.
Any work turned in after that is 10% off per day.
The lowest grade that can be given is a 50%.
If a student gets lower than a 70 on an assignment, they will be able to redo the assignment to improve their grade.
Per student handbook, any work missed from an unexcused absence cannot be made up (Page 21.)
Also per student handbook, there is no advance work for time off. While your student is gone, they can check Google Classroom for assignments. Anything else missed can be made up upon their return (Page 21.)
