Here is a sample lesson using different strategies but focused around discussion and collaboration
Trigonometry is the study of triangles. In this section you will Master the following target skills:
Target 1: Use the Pythagorean theorem
To find the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle
To find the length of a leg of a right Triangle
Target 2: Use trig ratios (sin, cos, tan)
To find the length of a missing side
To find the measurement of an angle
Target 3: Solve trig problems in real life context
Part 2. Complete Discussion 1 on Schoology
Part 1. Complete the following 3 sections of Khanacademy (These are already assigned to you so you can go directly to Khanacademy and find them there)
Part 2. -Discussion (respond to your original post from yesterday): Post a question from Khanacademy and solve someone else's problem
Post a question from khanacademy for others to solve (make sure you can solve it)
Manage your post: give students feedback if they try to answer your problem. Give them hints if they have trouble or give them feedback on how they solved it.
Answer at least one other person's problem. Get feedback from the student who posted the problem and reply back to them. Fix the problem if you need to.
*If there are no Posts for you to reply to, you may start looking at and working on Day 3
Part 1. You've been assigned groups based on the times you are available to meet with others. Work together to complete this Google Doc (This is a "view only")
Have 1 person create a new google Doc and share it with the team
Copy and paste the questions from google Doc above.
Keep in mind that you can simultaneously work on the same file (almost like talking to each other)
Use a different font color for each person or label who did each part.
Everyone should do a similar amount of work
Each person submit a copy of this file on google classroom. Link Here
Main Task: You will find real application-type problems and solve them by working in a group
Group 1 (11:00 am)
1
2
3
4
Group 2 (12:00 pm)
5
6
7
8
Group 3 (10:30 am)
9
10
11
12
Part 2. Discussion Forum:
Have each person choose a different problem from your project and post a screenshot on your original discussion post
Choose a problem posted by at least 2 other people (not in your team) and answer the following questions
What formula would you use to solve this problem? How do you know?
Make sure you manage your own comments and give students feedback
You will create a flipgrid video where you explain what you have learned this week.
Part 2: Final Project
Create a Video (using Flipgrid) using the problem above and explain all of the following points:
When to use the Pythagorean theorem
How do you solve a quadratic when using the Pythagorean theorem?
When to use SOH CAH TOA
Which Trig identity (sin, cos, tan) do you choose and why?
When to use inverse trig identities
How do you type all of this into a calculator?
-Explain with as much detail as possible
-like you were explaining it to someone that knows math but may not know the content you are explaining
-If you don't explain something I will assume that you don't know it
-Your video should have no more than 3 takes
