Learning targets are specific statement on what students are supposed to learn and what they can do due to the instruction. This entails that as a pre-service teacher, I have to keep in mind that the learning targets I devise should be clear, definite, and meaningful to the learners. Moreover, alternative assessment is a great tool to ensure that the learners can have a more authentic learning experience. It is important that these alternative assessments are planned and executed properly to allows learners achieved the intended learning outcome and targets. I have specified two learning targets for this specific lesson which are the skills and product. I am satisfied with the learning targets I have developed as it fulfills the learning objectives I have set out. I have made necessary changes and improvements as I rechecked the plan I have produced. Initially, I only specified one learning target which is the skills but I thought if I also require the students to produce a script which serves as product of learning, it is better and easier for me to assess whether they have applied the strategies in a conversation or not. This results to the assessment plan having two learning targets: skills and product. The basis for the selection of the alternative assessment is the MELC (Most Essential Learning Competencies), the devised learning objectives, and the learning targets. I keep in mind that the assessment should directly satisfy these competency and objectives, as well as achieve the learning target. It is so because the assessment should always align with the objectives of the learning and achieve the learning target to ensure a cohesive learning process. The task helps me better understand the importance of establishing the learning targets and the use of alternative assessment for learning.
