Welcome to the Power Electronics Lab at Penn State
Dr. Yunting Liu regularly seeks students at all levels (undergrad and grad students, postdocs, visiting students, and scholars) for research in the areas of power electronics, wide bandgap devices, renewable energy integration, converter reliability, and smart grids. Successful applicants may be offered an assistantship. Research focus areas are as follows,
Wide bandgap devices, gate drive design, double-pulse testing.
Power electronics converter design, modeling, and control, especially grid-tied converters such as multilevel converters and active power filters.
Power electronic interfaces for renewables (solar, wind, electric vehicles, etc.) and their grid applications.
If you are interested in PhD positions, here are some qualifications needed:
A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or computer engineering, upon admission.
GRE Quant. > 165
A relevant background in power electronics, electric power systems, or computer science with application in electrical engineering.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Motivated to explore new areas, and able to work with others as part of a project team.
Some other preferred qualifications to join as a PhD student:
Holding a master’s degree in electrical engineering upon admission.
Experience with one or more of the following: MATLAB, PCB design, LTspice, Saber, TI DSPs, PLECS, PSIM, dSPACE, OpenDSS, SolidWorks.
Experience with research projects and technical writing.
