Scenes are the more creative part of setting up your OBS software. At the bottom, you will find two sections named "Scenes" and "Sources." We will use these to build our scenes. It is important to know that Scenes work in a layer system, so if you would like to have your webcam overtop of the display capture, you have to make sure that your webcam is above the display capture in the Sources section.
First, begin by clicking the "+" button at the bottom of the "Scenes" section. Name your scene and click "OK."
Your preview of the scene is in the middle and it will show that it is black. Don't worry, this is normal.
After you've clicked "OK", go to the sources section and click the "+" button. You will first want to add your webcam if you have one. Do so by clicking "Video Capture Device" in the options.
Create a new video capture device. You can name your webcam in OBS Studio if you'd like. Click "OK."
Select your device in the "Device" section using the drop down menu.
You can select your webcam and move or adjust it to your liking.
If you will be streaming, click on the "+" button under the "Sources" section and select the "Game Capture" option.
Create a new game capture and click "OK."
You can choose to leave your mode at "Capture any fullscreen application" or change it to "Capture specific window." It may be easier to capture a specific window but, if you do so, make sure the game is open while you are trying to capture the source and make sure you select the game you are attempting to capture in the "Window" drop down menu.
If you will be recording your desktop screen, instead of selecting "Game Capture", select "Display Capture." Create new and select "OK."
Select the display that you want to capture and click "OK."
While there are many other options to add to your stream or recording, these settings will start you off with something basic. Feel free to mess around and try out different settings such as text, adding a browser source, and more!
