When you log in to MackinVIA, navigate to our Databases on the left side tab. Select Britannica School (HIGH) and you can start searching for any topic. You have the ability to cite articles, images, and videos easily, as well as translate the information into another language. In addition, you can find related primary sources and the "Web's Best Sites" for websites that are reliable and high-quality.
It can be difficult to determine whether a source is credible. That means, can we trust the information that this book, article, or website is presenting? We need to consider the point of view-- who wrote it? What biases do they have? What credentials or experience does the author have? For what purpose did they publish this information? How recently was this information shared? The good news is that we have some guiding questions that we can use and some clues to help us navigate sources. The other thing to keep in mind is that no source is entirely good or bad, and that all sources have some biases. The important thing, then, is to ensure that, overall, our research is balanced. We want to ensure that our research includes a variety of sources. This will help us fact-check the information that we are finding, and will offer us alternative perspectives. If you need assistance finding reliable sources, a great place to start are our online databases in MackinVIA. Please don't hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Alvarez if you would like more help or have any questions about finding and analyzing sources.
