From my experience students that make the most growth with a retest have thought about the math concepts ahead of time on their own before coming in for help. ELO help sessions can go by so quickly. It is extremely helpful for students to have an idea around what they want to get from this support time. Even students bringing in the study guide with a circled problem or a specific question written down helps us to focus and get the most out of our time.
Look at the questions below.
To retest you will need to be able to answer 'Yes' to the 4 main questions below. Plan to bring in your study guide and anything else you have used to study with, to Dr. Ramey to take the retest.
IF at any point you need help, please ask! I will help you at any stage of this studying processes.
1. Have I looked over the Unit test that was handed back to me and corrected ?
Think:
What did I do well on?
What did I not understand?
Can I fix the problems I struggled on right now or is more practice needed?
Did Dr. Ramey write any notes to me, if so do I understand what the notes are saying to me? (you can always ask Dr. Ramey for clarification if they don't make sense)
Did I not understand the unit concept or was this error just make a fast math mistake?
2. Have I went through the Khan Academy Help areas for this Unit?
Remember Khan Academy can be a resource for before the test or after.
If you need help finding the correct topic area please ask and Dr. Ramey will help you utilize this tool.
3. Have I worked through the study guide for this Unit?
Think:
Have I checked my answers?
Do I get stuck at the same point in each problem?
Have I looked back at my notes for help?
Do I have specific questions about what I don't understand to ask Dr. Ramey when I come in for help?
4. Do I have better mastery of the unit concept, do I feel confident coming in to retest?
If not:
Do I need to sign up for Dr. Ramey's ELO math help time to get more personalized strategies to help me be successful?
