Biology is a standards-based life science course designed to help students understand the living world around them. This is the typical class for 9th graders.
This introductory Health Science course provides an overview of the healthcare field. It introduces students to the five pathways that make up the health science cluster (Diagnostic, Therapeutic and Support Services, Health Informatics, Biotechnology Research and Development).
This course is an in-depth study of the major systems of the human body. It examines: structure, function, clinical applications, and mechanisms for maintaining homeostasis. The course also introduces common human disease processes. The laboratory component includes anatomical studies using microscopy, dissection, and the study of physiological concepts via experimentation.
Medical Terminology is a one-quarter course offered for wellness credit which gives students in-depth instruction in recognizing and forming medical terms related to the body's organ systems.
PSD Work-Based Learning (WBL) programs offer eligible students an opportunity to earn high school credit and gain experience in a chosen profession or industry. Students are eligible to enroll in a WBL course for an experience (internship, apprenticeship, paid relevant work experience) that is longer than 30 hours in length and earn variable elective credit. This course will support students as they develop professional workplace skills.
AP Biology, as designed by The College Board, is a rich and challenging class for highly motivated students in biology. AP Biology is recommended for students who wish to study biomedical science or medicine in college.
Advanced Chemistry is equivalent to a first-semester college course in introductory Chemistry. Advanced Chemistry is a rich and challenging course for highly motivated students. This class is recommended for students who wish to study medicine in college.
The class will focus on the cell as the basic unit of structure and function in living systems; units on cell anatomy, metabolic processes at the molecular level, and cell division. This class is recommended for students with career interests in biology, medicine, and biomedical sciences.
Chemistry is a laboratory class exploring the interactions of matter. It is recommended for all college-bound students who are ready for the transition in rigor from high school to college.
