Mentee Overview: New Educator Support
PSD is proud to offer the support of a well-established Mentoring and Induction Program. Building principals or supervisors assign new PSD educators a mentor: a veteran educator or colleague from their building or content area. The Mentoring and Induction Program provides the support of a paid mentor or guide for two years as mentees begin their careers in PSD. During the first year, a mentor supports their mentee; during the second year, the mentor transitions to a guide.
Poudre School District cares deeply about the success of new educators. The Mentoring and Induction Program provides the resources necessary to ensure optimal growth. Please know that there are many people available to provide support.
What to expect from your mentor:
Provide support and resources to navigate your new job and new school(s);
Reduce the stress of your transition to a new career to promote wellness and balance;
Help the development of your professional performance using evaluation rubrics
Help you process and reflect on your professional responsibilities as an educator;
Include and support your transition into your school or building culture, as well as site expectations, systems, and traditions;
Guide and mentor you in completing the PSD Mentoring and Induction Program requirements.
Mentor Best Fit
We realize that life can sometimes interfere with your partnership. So, if you have concerns, or your mentor realizes they are no longer available to mentor you (regardless of whether a life commitment interferes or is simply not a “best fit"), don't hesitate to reach out.
How often should I meet with my mentee?
In the first year of induction, partnerships with mentors commit to at least 28 hours of meeting and communicating with their mentor. In the second year, partnerships commit to meeting for 14 hours. The goal is to build an authentic partnership where the mentee and their mentor value time together.
