My name is Emily Pennington and I am one of the autism teachers here at Bacon Elementary School. I am so excited to work with your student and family! I previously worked in PSD as a paraprofessional before finishing my master's degree in special education and receiving my teaching license from the University of Northern Colorado. This is my second year at Bacon and my sixth year in education. I am very passionate about the work I do. It is not lost on me that I become a small part of your child's journey. Together we are better♥️
I received my undergraduate degree from Colorado State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Human Development and Family Studies with an emphasis in pre-health in 2019. I received my master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado with a Master of Arts in Special Education in 2022.
I was born and raised in Northern Colorado on a dairy farm that my dad owned and operated. My two sisters and I went to school in Eaton, Colorado where my mom was (and still is) the elementary school nurse. From a young age, I have always had a desire to work within the special needs community. I have volunteered across the country as a peer mentor for young adults with Down Syndrome, I was a swim coach for the Special Olympics, interned as a job coach for a transition school in Northern Colorado and provide respite care for individuals over the summer.
All of us are different. We learn differently, communicate differently, experience the world differently, and express ourselves differently. Though we are all different, none of us are less. I got into the special education field because I believe that children are magic. I witness this magic every single day in my classroom. Getting to watch each student I work with grow and become their own individual is one of the most magnificent experiences. My students make me want to be better every day. As much as I teach them, they truly all teach me. I get to have a career where I get to do work I truly love and adore!
