Multiplication & Division Fact Practice
We want to touch base with all of you to stress the importance of keeping up with practicing multiplication and division facts at home. In the time that we have been teaching math, we have noticed that multiplication and division facts tend to be put on the backburner. We understand, life is busy. However, when students enter the 5th grade it is VITAL that students have mastered all their facts through 10.
Fifth grade math standards can be difficult if students cannot recall their fact families.
Some of the skills that require multiplication facts include:
Place value
Multi-digit multiplication
Multi-digit division
Area
Converting measurements
Simplifying and comparing fractions
Common denominators (adding and subtracting fractions)
Converting mixed numbers and improper fractions
Multiplying fractions
Factors
Multiples
Patterns
Word problems
As you can see, multiplication facts fall into almost every skill for the fifth grade (and beyond). PLEASE have your child practice his/her multiplication and division facts for 10 minutes EACH NIGHT. This along with AR reading is their nightly homework. If you need resources to practice, please reach out to us.
