Regional Tournament 3/7
Location: The regional tournament will be held at Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins (5400 Ziegler Rd). Kinard has two home rooms (N225 & N210) that students can use to keep their belongings and use for downtime between events. I have also attached the map of the event locations.
Time: The competition runs from 8:00-2:50, however I am asking all students to arrive by 7:30am for check in and stay through the awards ceremony that begins at 4:00. The expectation is that students are at the competition for the full day, regardless of the time their events are competing. If a student needs to leave early for any reason, they will need to be picked up by a parent and checked out with me before leaving.
Food: We will be ordering pizza for lunch for students and parent volunteers. There will also be concessions available to purchase at the tournament. If you would like to volunteer to bring some snacks for the students to have throughout the day, it would be greatly appreciated.
Volunteers: We still need one or two more parent volunteers willing to be at the competition. We have 44 students participating in Science Olympiad this year, and need to have more adult eyes for supervision and help with shuttling students and supplies to and from events. Please let me know if you would be willing to come for even part of the day to help us make sure the competition runs as smoothly as possible.
Apparel: Please wear your Kinard Science Olympiad shirts!! There are also some events that require students wear pants that cover the ankle and close-toed shoes, so please be aware of any clothing specifications for your events.
Supplies: Students are responsible for their own event supplies!! If you do not want to bring your event binders or cheat sheets to the event yourself, please bring them to me by Friday and I can put them in the box of binders. Make sure you are double checking your event rules and have the things you need for the competition!
Conduct: As a reminder to all students, you must be showing Kinard Character throughout the entire tournament. This includes showing respect to other students, adults, and tournament volunteers; using rooms and building materials designated to us correctly; and cheering appropriately during the awards ceremony.
Additional Build Time
Regionals is quickly approaching, and I know there are some teams that would like some additional time to finish/test their builds. I have requested additional building access for Science Olympiad this week for this reason.
Tuesday, March 3rd: 4:00pm-6:00pm. We will have rooms 510 & 511 (Tech and Shop rooms), as well as the cafeteria and gyms.
Wednesday. March 4th: 3:15pm-7:00pm. We will have rooms 510 & 511 (Tech and Shop rooms), and can use the cafeteria and gym once basketball practice is over.
Thursday, March 5th: Science Night as scheduled from 6:00-8:00
Friday. March 6th: **Please let me know if you will need additional time on Friday to complete builds! It is my hope that we can have everything ready by Thursday, but if needed we can be here Friday for last minute finishing touches. Please utilize the extra time earlier in the week!!
Saturday, March 7th: REGIONALS!!
If you are planning to come on Tuesday or Wednesday, participants please first double check with your coach to see if they will be able to be here as well. If your coach is unable to make it, please email me and we can see what we can work out. Coaches, please just send me a quick email if you plan to be here so I can have an idea of who will be in the building.
Regional Tournament Schedule
Happy Friday Science Olympiad Teams!!
A couple final reminders before the invitational:
PLEASE make sure you are bringing your binder/cheat sheet! If you do not want to be in charge of remembering it, bring it to me by 3:30 today and I will make sure I bring it to the invitational tomorrow.
If you have not done so already, please email me a copy of your cheat sheet today. If it needs to be printed in color it needs to be emailed to me no later than 2:40 today!
Unfortunately, our SciO t-shirts didn't make it in time (we should be getting them next week). Plan to wear a Kinard t-shirt tomorrow if you have one.
Make sure you are arriving at least a half hour before your first event starts to assure you have proper materials and are prepared.
I can't wait to see everyone tomorrow! Let me know if you have any questions.

Northern Colorado Invitational
We are so looking forward to participating in the Northern Colorado Invitational in just under two weeks! This announcement post is lengthy but includes important information, so please be sure to read all of it.
The Northern Colorado Science Olympiad Invitational will take place at Thompson Valley High School, located at 1669 Eagle Drive in Loveland, Colorado on Saturday, February 7th. Please come in through the student parking lot by the baseball and football fields off Eagle Drive.
The Invitational will run from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with the awards ceremony beginning at 4:00 PM. Our teams may begin checking in and setting up at 7:00 AM. Kinard teams will have a room designated to us as our "home base" during the event. Please review this spreadsheet to familiarize yourself with the times your events will be running, as well as the map of the school.
Build events are run in a drop-in format. I will be checking with our build coaches this week during Science Night to gauge their readiness for the invitational; there may be some build events that do not participate in this event if they do not have their structures ready.
Concessions will be available throughout the day. Donuts will be available in the morning, pizza around lunchtime, along with snacks and candy. Both cash and Venmo are accepted. Your student is also more than welcome to bring a lunch and snacks from home.
Please let me know if you have any questions about the day! We are so excited for a great day of competition.
Robotics Demo January 15th
Tonight we will have a robotics and engineering demonstration from some students from Fossil Ridge directly before Science Night. If you are interested in attending this event, please come to room 510 at 5:00!

Notes from 12/10 meeting:
If you are not assigned to three events, please take some time to look at our event placement document (linked below) and our practice calendar. Every event needs two participants, so please check out which events don't currently have two people and let me know which event(s) you would like to join. We have to participate in all 23 events at competition. This can be a great opportunity for you to try something new and explore a branch of science you haven't yet had experience with!
Team Meeting on Wednesday!!
We will be having a team meeting during ELO on Wednesday, December 10th. Please check in to your ELO for attendance then come to Ms. Blumberg's room at 2:35!
T-Shirt Design Contest!
Got a creative spark? Show it off! We are inviting all students to submit their best original design for our 2025-2026 Science Olympiad T-Shirts that we will be wearing at the regional and state competitions! Please email your design to Ms. Blumberg at kablumberg@psdschools.org by Friday, December 12th for your design to be considered.
Team Placement Release
**PLEASE READ**
Team placement is finalized Friday, November 21st, HOWEVER event placement is still subject to change! Placement for events is being determined from a variety of sources, including:
Coach input
Experience in event
Grade level
Practice attendance & engagement
Quizzes or tests administered by coaches
Schedule availability
Student interest ranking
Even if you do not make an event, you are still welcome to attend practices. You may be able to serve as an alternate/back up at the competition, and it could help you place in the event next year.
SOME STUDENTS DO NOT YET HAVE THREE EVENTS. As a reminder every student has to participate in at least three events. Once event placement is released, please look over the events that have openings and let me know an event you would be interested in picking up. This is a great opportunity to try something new and learn about a branch of science you may not have previous experience in!
Solar System Update
For any students interested in SOLAR SYSTEM the practice time has changed from Tuesday morning to Thursday morning 7:15-8:00 in room 526.
