Meet the AVID Teachers and Team for the 23/24 school year!

Megan Folkerts (12th grade)

Ms. Folkerts has been teaching Spanish at Fort Collins High School for the past 14 years. She has taught the AVID elective for the past 8 years and has had the honor of handing out high school diplomas to 2 of her graduating AVID classes. She is a huge believer of the AVID program and has seen the power that it can have on the future of our students. Her current AVID class will be graduating this upcoming Spring 2024!

Claire Skelly (11th GraDE)

Claire Skelly has been teaching at Fort Collins High School for 7 years and this will be her 5th year teaching AVID. She loves the community that AVID creates and helping her students be successful in pursuing their dreams! When she's not teaching, she enjoys running, gardening, hiking, and paddleboarding.

kELLY kEOUGH (10TH gRADE)

I teach AVID because I want all students to to have a successful future. I have been teaching for 22 years, 15 at FCHS and this is my second year teaching AVID.

Ryan Bishop (10th Grade / Site Coordinator)

Ryan Bishop has been at Fort Collins for 5 years and this is his 2nd year teaching AVID. He is a strong believer that anything is possible with the right tools within your grasp! Ryan is the AVID site coordinator overseeing the program with the help of ALL of these amazing people you see on this page. Being site coordinator would not be possible without their support!

Danielle Rojas (9th grade)

This is the beginning of my 17th year as an educator, and I am proud and honored to be a teacher in the same district where I attended school K-12! While I am a proud Fort Colins native, I am also equally as proud to have also lived in other places such as Spain and the Dominican Republic. My hobbies and interests include anything to do with music (singing, dancing, playing piano and guitar, attending concerts), yoga, outdoor activities especially skiing in the winter and paddle boarding in the summer, but my absolute favorite is spending time with my dear family and friends. My mission as an educator is to instill a love for learning and learning languages in all students and foster an environment that respects and promotes cross cultural education and understanding. I also hope to equip my students with the academic and social skills they will need to contribute positively to their communities and society as a whole.

Laura Barnes (9th GrAde)

I am excited to share my passion for movement, wellbeing, and health with young adults in our community. As a Lambkin alumni, it is exciting for me to continue our school's long history of positive culture and high student achievement. In my 11th year of teaching, the classes I instruct are Health & Wellness, Yoga & Fitness, 9th Grade AVID, Sports Medicine, and PE 1 to 9th - 12th graders. I also am an assistant volleyball coach for our FCHS volleyball program.

Outside of school, you will find me playing doubles sand volleyball, coaching my own kiddos, and hanging out with my family. I am a mom of a 3-year-old and 7 year old and they keep me on my toes (:

Mariah Runyan (AVID SIte Assistant Principal)

This is my first year at Fort Collins High School, and I am excited to return to work at the high school level and with AVID.  Prior to working for PSD, I was both and English teacher and school administrator at a high school in Santa Fe, where I was able to collaborate closely with their secondary AVID program.   I have seen first-hand the amazing opportunity AVID provides to high school students and the close bonds students and teachers create being a part of the program.  I believe in the power of the AVID program, and I am lucky to be able to continue my work with Fort Collins High School's AVID team and students.   We have an amazing team of dedicated educators!

During my time away from school, I love to hike, bike, paddle board, camp - basically anything outside - with my husband, son, and our dog, Bowie.   This is our fourth year living here in Fort Collins, and we have truly found our home in this wonderful community!

Jennifer Roth (Principal / District Coordinator)

What I love about Fort Collins High is being a part of a community of students, staff, and families who celebrate the rich history and traditions of the school and at the same time are committed to being innovative to meet the challenges of the future. Folks at FCHS create a space where everyone can belong and thrive. After 20 years, it is truly my home!
