AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.

What is AVID?

AVID is an approved elective course students take during the school day. Students learn organizational and study skills, develop critical thinking skills, and receive academic help from peers and tutors to make their college or career dreams become a reality. Classes build a close-knit community that provides added support to one another throughout the entire year. AVID students are required to enroll in at least one  College Prep Class, Advanced Placement® course,  or College course in addition to the A.V.I.D. elective.

Who typically benefits from the AVID Elective?

AVID targets students in the academic middle (2.0-3.5 GPA) who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum, but are falling short of their potential. Typically, they will be the first in their families to attend college.  The A.V.I.D. elective supports students as they challenge themselves in college preparatory courses. FCHS Counselors will provide eligible students with A.V.I.D. applications during the middle school registration process that takes place during the month of February.
