What if I can't make it to my scheduled appointment? Or I missed my appointment?
We have worked in a 'make-up' window during each round of scheduled appointments. The make-up days will be posted on the registration website and you can schedule a time with your counselor for those days. If you are unable to meet with your counselor, courses will be selected by them based on your graduation requirements.
I was unable to attend the presentation (s). Where can I get the information?
We have posted all materials on this website including the presentations, voice over recording of the presentations, hand out and such. Please navigate the registration website to find the information.
I have specific questions regarding course selection. Who do I ask?
Please navigate the website to see if we have answered your questions through our various materials. If not, you can reach out to your student's counselor. Please note that this is a busy time and we may not be able to respond in a timely manner. We will try our best to answer your questions. Teachers are also a great resource to discuss course offerings within their department. They are more than willing to recommend classes to take that meet your goals and interests.
I am not sure what Math course to take in the sequence. Who do I ask?
We always suggest students discuss their math course selection with their current math teacher as they have the best gauge of their abilities. Math teachers and counselors also take into consideration their post-secondary plans in terms of what math class would be appropriate for their goals and abilities.
I want to take classes at FRCC (Campus Select) and I don't know when they will be offered. How do I plan my courses?
If/when they register for Campus Select classes, counselors can adjust their schedule accordingly. We advise students to register for 60 credits of course at FCHS to ensure they have a schedule.
I want to earn an Associate's Degree. How do I plan my courses?
We suggest students review the different associate's degrees available at FRCC/Aims to determine what courses will align with the desired degree. Students can take these courses through offerings of Advanced Placement (AP) (by transcribing a passing score on the test), High School Select, Campus Select, and/or their ASCENT year. Courses can meet both the associate's degree requirements and those required for PSD graduation. A 4/5 year plan should be created to strategize how to take all the required courses. Please work with your counselor every year/semester.
I want to take an application class and I won't know if I got accepted. How do I plan my courses?
We advise students to register for 60 credits of course not including the class that needs an application to ensure they have a schedule. If/when they get accepted into the class, we can adjust their requests and remove the "extra" classes.
I am not sure I can work all my desired classes into my schedule when I build my schedule. What should I do?
As you build your schedule, you are limited to the courses you requested. Prioritize you desired courses by graduation requirements and areas of interest. Remember, you do have 4-years in High School to take courses. For courses you are unable to work into your requests, you are able to select them as alternatives. It would be in your best interest to have 2-4 alternatives to choose from.
If I meet all my graduation requirements, can I have several "off" periods?
Students need to be enrolled in 60 credits to be considered full-time. During their registration appointments, students can discuss with the counselor their plans whether it be working, taking college-level classes, etc. to make an appropriate schedule.
As a 9th grader, can I have an "off" period?
We do not advise 9th graders to have off periods for a variety of reasons.
What if my student changes their mind about their course requests later in the year?
We completely understand that students may change their goals in high school. However, we do build the school wide schedule based on student requests. We do have a "Schedule Repair" window at the end of a quarter and beginning of the new quarter to adjust students' schedules pending space available in classes. We cannot guarantee we can make changes. With that we highly encourage students to be committed to their course selection.
General FCHS Q&A
Does FCHS have an open campus?
Because of the nature of our school and the opportunities students have off campus, we do allow students to leave as they need. We also recognize this as a great learning opportunity to self-monitor their academic responsibilities.
Do you have lockers for students to put their personal belongings in?
Yes, students are able to get an individual locker chosen at random.
What is the absent/tardy policy at FCHS?
Students are expected to be in class when the bell rings and stay for the entirety of the class. Please reference the school's Attendance website with the details regarding absences and tardy.
How long are passing periods between classes?
Each passing period is 6 minutes. We have found that is enough time to take care of ones needs and get between classes.
I took some high school level classes in Middle School. Do those appear on my high school transcript?
High school level classes taken and passed in middle school, e.g. Algebra, Geometry, Spanish, etc., will show on your PSD transcript with the grade and the high school credit that you earned. This is factored both into high school graduation requirements AND into your cumulative GPA. If you wish to opt out of having the class appear on your transcript, it is both the credits and the grade. You have until the last day of 9th grade to submit an Opt Out Form. Please talk with your counselor for more information.
Do we offer tutors or academic support?
There are a variety of supports that we offer students depending on their needs. Students do have access to their teachers during our late start time on Wednesdays. Please ask the specific teacher to see what is available in their content. The district and local community organizations often offer tutoring sessions. Many of our student leadership clubs often require volunteering which includes tutoring.
