Grading for 6/7

Boltz Middle School uses the Standards-Based Grading Framework which was created to establish a teaching and learning framework that serves all students. Family Consumer Sciences has 8 Middle School Standards that the students will be assessed with and graded with. Depending on what class your student is in, they will be using some/most of these standards. Those standards fall under the categories of:

  • Nutrition and Wellness,

  • Food Production,

  • Reasoning for action,

  • Interpersonal Relationships,

  • Family Consumer Resources,

  • Food Preparation,

  • Textiles/Fashion/Apparel, and

  • Parenting.

70% of their grade is Summative, 29% is Formative and 1% is for Work Habits. The 4 work habits are: I am Prepared, I am Productive, I Participate, and I demonstrate Positive Classroom Behavior.

Grading for 8th

Last year Boltz Middle School switched from the Standards-Based Grading Framework to Cumulative Points Based grading for all 8th grade students. This change is intended to aid 8th graders in their transition to high school. Grade points breakdown as follows: A: 90-100, B: 80-89, C: 70-79, D: 60-69, F: 59 and below. I will still be using the Colorado FCS Middle School Standards to guide the class material and units.

Online Attendance Info

Attendance will be taken regardless of physical location of the student or the teacher. Ms. Soell will take attendance after the first 10 minutes of class everyday.

Parents have two options to report a student absent or illness.

b. Parents can report this either through the automated attendance line (970-472- 3700 press option 1).

c. OR parents may self-report using PARENTVUE. Parents will be able to provide a note of explanation for this absence.

PSD and Boltz MS continues to reserve the right to determine if an absence will be excused or identified as unexcused.

Homework

Homework looks different for every student and for every class. In Family and Consumer Sciences, we do a lot of project based learning which means we utilize materials that are inside the classroom or materials that are specific to Family and Consumer Sciences. This means that MOST of the work students do will be DURING class time.

Homework in this class is any unfinished work or work that was not completed during class time. If I do choose to assign homework, it will be discussed during class and students will be aware of it. I will never assign random homework or send out information without a warning.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to personally reach out to me. Thanks!!
