Course Description

This is a new course being offered this year to 7th grade students. Pottery and Sculpture will be an introductory course for students who are interested in exploring three-dimensional art. This course will provide students with foundational skills needed to be successful in 8th grade Pottery. Students will balance their technical skills in creating three-dimensional art with a variety of materials, as well as their conceptual and creative ideas.

Grades

Boltz Middle School uses the Standards-Based Grading Framework which was created to establish a teaching and learning framework that serves all students. In Art, students are assessed and graded based on the four Colorado state art standards; observe and learn to comprehend, envision and critique to reflect, invent and discover to create, and relate and connect to transfer.

  • Students grades are a cumulation of formative and summative assessments including but not limited to; sketchbook checks, quizzes, critiques, artist statements, final projects, tickets out the door, pre-assessments, gallery walks, etc.

  • All formative and summative assessments are student driven and allow for students to reflect on their own artistic practice and make personal goals for their learning.

Every project will give students the opportunity to reflect on their artistic growth through self-evaluation and artist statements
