Grades

Grades

Your Semester grade is a combination of assessments, independent practice, and homework. Completion of assignments in all areas is vital to being a successful student. The following is a breakdown of how you are graded:

  • Minor Assessments - 30% - Quizzes and projects which may be given throughout a unit of study.

  • Major Assessments - 40%- Benchmark and End of Unit Assessments

  • Classwork – 25% - Class assignments that help to build an understanding of the standards being learned in each unit.

  • Homework - 5% - Most of the time homework is finishing any classwork that has not been finished in class.

Late Work

All work should be completed on time to ensure that you are keeping up with the pace of the class. If an assignment must be turned in late, hand it in as soon as possible after the due date. A good rule of thumb is to hand in work within two weeks of the due date.

Corrections

All work may be corrected for a better grade. Any classwork/homework assignment may be corrected for full credit. Corrections on tests, quizzes and projects earn back half the points that were lost. If an assignment is fully corrected, the minimum grade that can be earned is a 70.

What do I do if I want a better grade on a test or quiz from Savvas?

  1. Go to google classroom and open up the original assignment. You will be brought to a list that gives each question and tells you whether you got it right or wrong and how many points you earned.

  2. Use a corrections paper (to be found in the drawers on the bookshelf in the classroom).

  3. For each problem that you did not get correct or full credit for, do the work for the problem so that I know you now understand what you did wrong originally and why you know you are correct now. Answers only will not be accepted. I need to see work or an explanation with the correct answer.

  4. Turn your corrections paper in so Mrs. Colson can regrade your assessment.

  5. For each problem that is now corrected, you will earn back half the points you originally lost. If your original grade was below a 40 and all your work is correct for the problems you got wrong, you will be given a 70.

  6. If you need help with your corrections, come after school on a Thursday for extra help.

Class Participation

Class participation requires you to follow the classroom rules and courtesies. Being an active participant, showing respect, following directions, and being prepared are essential to being a successful student. When you participate, you will be more successful. You are responsible for your own success.
