Expectations for Math Class

Mrs. Colson’s Math Rules and Expectations:

I have high expectations for you this year. The conduct and rules pertaining to the expectations of the entire school are specifically outlined in the Student Policy Handbook. The handbook outlines all criteria for dress code, care of textbooks, etc. These guidelines are to be followed at all times.

Keep in mind that our school-wide expectations are to be RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, and READY TO LEARN.

It is also expected that you adhere to the following classroom rules and courtesies.

1. BE POLITE: HAVE RESPECT FOR YOURSELF, OTHERS (TEACHERS, STAFF MEMBERS, AND CLASSMATES), AND TO PROPERTY AS WELL. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AND ALWAYS DO WHAT IS ASKED OF YOU.

2. BE PROMPT: BE IN YOUR SEAT AND READY TO START CLASS ON TIME.

3. BE PREPARED: HAVE YOUR BINDER OR NOTEBOOK, PENCILS, HOMEWORK, ETC. FOR CLASS EVERY DAY.

4. BE PRODUCTIVE: TAKE NOTES, PARTICIPATE IN CLASS, AND DO YOUR WORK. SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND LEARN FROM WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY. WE CAN ALL HELP EACH OTHER SUCCEED.

Everyone makes mistakes. If you do, just admit what you have done wrong, apologize, and stop so that your behavior does not interfere with the learning of the other students in the classroom. Since you are aware of what is expected, we can all work together to ensure that this will be an enjoyable and successful year for all.

If what you are doing INTERFERES with learning, HURTS someone's heart, or PREVENTS you from being your best self, YOU SHOULD NOT BE DOING IT!

Consequences

Should you choose not to follow any of the classroom courtesies the following consequences can be given to help correct the inappropriate behavior.

  1. A warning or verbal cue will be given.

  2. The student will be removed from the situation (ex. Change of seat, Step outside the classroom).

  3. Detention will be assigned (10 minutes or more after school).

  4. A writing assignment will be assigned. (It must be returned with a parent's signature the next day. If the writing assignment is not returned, the assignment doubles, and detention will be given.)

  5. The student will be sent to the office.

Any violent or harmful behavior will not be tolerated. Any severe disruptions will be referred to the office immediately.
