The State of Missouri A+ Schools Program is an initiative that allows eligible students to attend a Missouri community college or public tech school tuition free. (General fees are also paid. However, textbooks and other major specific fees are not paid.)
** A+ funding does not cover ANY tuition or fees at 4 year colleges and universities.
*Funding is not guaranteed and is determined by the State of MO legislature each year.
Deadline for 2025 seniors to enroll in the A+ program is: Friday, October 4th. Pick up an enrollment form in the A+ office (E200)

2024-2025 PHS A+ tutors apply below:
PHS A+ tutors earn 25 hours/semester. This is a non -credited class. *Reminder-if you participate in any MSHAA sponsored athletics or activities, you must have 6 credited classes.

2023-2024 A+ Tutoring Opportunities:
**You must do the tutor training before beginning your tutoring: A+ TUTOR TRAINING
-PHS A+ tutor--*Applications for 2nd semester-click link (1st semester is closed):
-12.5 hours of an approved Job Shadow experience can count toward A+ tutoring. See Mrs. Krohn if you are interested in this oppt. (Students must arrange the Job Shadow-but prior approval is required).
-Tutoring at Pattonville ECC, Elementary or Middle Schools--contact a teacher at a PSD school to arrange for tutoring in their classroom. After getting approval from the teacher, contact Mrs. Krohn before beginning. *All teacher emails are on the school's website on the PSD website.

A+ REQUIREMENTS
Do you want to earn TWO free years to a Missouri Community College??
Complete an A+ application (by October 6 of SENIOR year)
Earn a 2.5 (non-weighted) GPA by graduation
Attend an A+ School for 2 years prior to graduation
Maintain a record of good citizenship
Have 95% attendance throughout high school
No alcohol or drug infractions
Do 50 hours of unpaid tutoring at a PSD school
Be proficient on the Algebra I EOC or a higher math EOC (a 17 on the Math section of the ACT will satisfy this requirement as well)
Complete the FAFSA beginning in December of a student's senior year.

PHS A+ tutors

--Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA
--Must be in 11th or 12th grade
--Must have an ac lab on your schedule
--No individual teacher requests--only departments
--Earn 25 hours/semester
Job Shadowing (12.5 hours of an approved Job Shadow experience can count toward A+ hours-these will NOT count toward community service hour total). See Mrs. Krohn or Mrs. Luraschi if you are intereseted in job shadowing!
All students must do the ON-LINE TUTOR TRAINING prior to beginning tutoring.
**After you do the on-line tutor training, you need to print out the last page and turn into the A+ Office before beginning your tutoring.
All tutoring must be done at a PSD school under the supervision of a PSD teacher.
All tutoring must be approved by the A+ office.
Students must provide their own transportation to & from the tutoring site. (After virtual learning ends)
All tutoring must be documented and verified by the cooperating teacher.
Hours can be tracked on the GOLD community service sheet.
All tutoring must be completed by MAY 3rd of the student's senior year.
ATTENDANCE
Students must have a 95% attendance rate by graduation to be A+ eligible.
95% is about 7 or 8 school days/school year a student can miss and still remain eligible.
ALL absences count against a student for the A+ Program.
Major illnesses, hospitalizations and surgeries can be appealed. Appeal forms can be obtained from the A+ office. Documentation as to the nature of the illness needs to be submitted with the appeal.
Regular doctor/dentist visits and minor illnesses (strep throat, sinus infection, flu,etc) can NOT be appealed.
Attendance is calculated by the hour--so it is always better to miss only a partial day than a full day if possible!
CITIZENSHIP
Students must maintain a record of good citizenship to attain A+ eligibility.
General guidelines are as follows:
Any drug or alcohol offense is automatic removal from the A+ Program with no opportunity for an appeal.
10 days of In School Suspension (or 6 days in 1 school year) will result in the student being placed on A+ probation. *Probation lasts until graduation.
5 days of Out of School suspension will result in the student being placed on A+ probation. *Probation lasts until graduation.
10 days of Out of School suspension will result in removal from the A+ Program.
Additional notes:
If a student has been placed on A+ probation receives any additional days of ISS, OSS or combined 10 hours of detention, the student will be removed from the A+ program.
No appeals are allowed for probation.
If a student is removed for citizenship infractions, they may appeal by completing the Citizenship Appeal Form and submitting to the A+ office.
Only 1 A+ citizenship appeal is allowed over the course of high school.
ALGEBRA 1 EOC INFORMATION
Students must achieve a qualifying score on one of the following tests in order to be A+ eligible:
1. Proficient on the Algebra I end of course exam.
2. Proficient on a higher Math end of course exam. (i.e.: Algebra II)
3. Achieve a score of 17 on the Math subsection of the ACT.
*Students may achieve the qualifying ACT score AFTER high school graduation.
Pattonville students may retake the Algebra I EOC up to 3 times in order to achieve the Proficient score needed for the A+ Program. Retakes will be allowed in the fall testing window only.
***STUDENTS MUST NOTIFY THE A+ COORDINATOR BY NOVEMBER 1 OF THEIR INTENT TO RETAKE THE END OF COURSE EXAM.

Scholarships at 4 year universities
Some MO 4 year institutions offer PRIVATE (not state A+ funded) scholarships for students that complete the A+ Program. Below is a list of MO universities that generally offer a scholarship. *These are not guaranteed, may be competitive and an application may be required. Please contact the university for additional information.
