Madrigals is an important tradition to the Plainfield Central High School community. The Madrigal is one of the most enduring musical forms in all of history. During its early development in 16th Century Italy, the Madrigal found favor with the noble class. Lords and Ladies would perform these songs at banquets and other social events. All members of the English nobility were expected to have musical training and to be able to sing songs like these on sight.

The Plainfield Central Madrigal Singers is an advanced, extracurricular mixed-voiced ensemble that focuses on advanced a cappella repertoire. Music from the Renaissance era is the main focus, with both holiday and contemporary selections added each year. Auditions take place at the end of the Spring semester in the previous year and while it is open for any student to audition, a high level of music abilities and personal dedication is required.

The ensemble performs at our annual Madrigal performance annually held in December. The Madrigal performances take place on the decorated stage of Plainfield Central's auditorium.
