The Illinois Music Education Association exists to advocate for universal access to comprehensive music education; deliver exemplary professional development for educators; and provide outstanding musical experiences for all Illinois learners facilitated by licensed music educators.
ILMEA offers an opportunity to audition for a regional (District) and All State Choir. Advanced Choir Honors students have the opportunity to participate in ILMEA through vocal auditions for chorus. Our region (District 9) consists of the northwest and southwest suburbs.
In addition, any Advanced Choir Honors student may audition for Vocal Jazz; any student may participate in composition; and any junior or senior interested in pursuing a career in music education can be nominated to take part in FMES (Future Music Educators Seminar).

ILMEA Choir Auditions
ILMEA Choir Auditions - video recordings due on September 30th, 2026
If selected for the ILMEA District IX Choir, the festival is an all day event on Saturday, November 14th at Dundee Crown High School in Carpentersville, Illinois.
You must attend the District IX Festival in order to be eligible for the All State Choirs, which rehearse and perform in Peoria, IL at the Illinois Music Education Conference at the end of January 2027.
All State Choirs are comprised of the top scores ine ach voice part from the 9 districts across the state of Illinois.
The recorded audition consists of the following:
5 Tonal Skills (Major scale and 1 minor scale + Major triad and 2 other triads (minor, augmented, and/or diminished)
All State Selections (these will be audition excerpts)
