Once unlimited, Google Workspace now has storage limits. Students and teachers have a 50 GB limit. Users with storage above that limit may lose the ability to add or create new documents to their drives.
Follow the steps below to delete old or unneeded files from your drive. Focus on files that use a large amount of storage (500MB or larger). Contact your school Educational Technology Specialist if you have a role that requires a large amount of storage (e.g. Yearbook Staff, Video Production Work, Performance Archives)
Check your storage and see what files are taking up the most space. When logged into your account, follow this link:
https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/quota
Your files will be sorted with the largest at the top. Delete large files by holding down the "control" key while clicking on the file. Select "Move to trash" from the menu options.
Many users with large Google Photo libraries don't realize that their iPhone or Android phone is set back up every photo taken on the phone.
Follow the directions to Stop your iPhone from backing up Photos to your Google Drive. Android instructions here.
You can select photos in Google photos by clicking on the checkmark that appears when hovering at the top left of the photo. Once selected, you can click on the trash can to delete.
You can select multiple photos (up to an entire screen view) with these steps:
Select the first photo, you can use the "shift" key to grab a selection on a date,
or hover over the date and click button to select ALL photos on that day
Scroll down, but not too far and not too fast. You can click "Page Down" about 4-5 times.
Hover with the mouse over a photo and hold the shift key.
When the thumbs turn blue you can select by a left mouse click.
