Using the Pens as a Mouse

This section will focus on interacting with the projection system WITH a computer connected to it.

Before You Begin

1) Check the pens:

  • Make sure to install an AA battery.

  • Press the button on the pen to check the battery - green or blue is good (depending on the model of pen you have).

  • After 20 seconds, the pen goes into a power saving mode; after 20 min - it will turn off. To turn on - touch the tip to the board

  • Pen model ELPPN05 (black line down the center) works with the 685Wi and higher projector models; pen model ELPPN04 works with the 585Wi and lower projector models

  • View the "How to Use the Interactive Pens" video to the left or click here.

2) Calibrate the pens:

  • Power on the projector.

  • Clear the projector screen.

  • To auto-calibrate: From the remote, select the User button. Click Yes to start the auto calibration process and move away from the screen.

  • To manually calibrate: select the User button. Click No and then Extended > Easy Interactive function > Manual calibration. You will then be prompted to touch the pen to various points on the screen.

  • View the "How to Calibrate the Interactive Pens" video to the left.

3.) Install Epson's Easy Interactive Tools software.

To download and install this software - try these options:

a) Using the Mac Self-Service Portal application:

  • Go to the Mac Self-Service Portal application on your PSB Macbook.

  • Find the Epson Easy Interactive tool software, download and open it. It should now display in your Mac's Applications folder.

b) If you don't have the Mac Self-Service application on your computer:

  • Contact Brookline's IT Service Desk at <help_desk@psbma.org> to request this software to be installed on your Macbook. Give them your Mac operating system.

Using the Mouse Mode

  1. Connect your laptop to the projection system using the silver-ish/ longer USB cord that comes with the projection system. The end with the black "c2g" piece should be plugged into the USB wall input.

  2. From the Epson toolbar, select the projector icon> then the pen icon.

  3. Launch the Easy Interactive tool software. By default, this opens to the "whiteboard mode." Switch to the pen mode - this is toward the bottom of the screen.

  • Once in pen mode, you can drag and drop items that display on the screen.

  • View the "Using Annotation and Mouse Modes" video to the left - starting at the 3 min mark for the pen mode.
