Screen Recording

Screen Recording tools are an invaluable tool for extended learning. Teachers can record narrations of slide presentations, demonstrate math problems, read books, or provide clear assignment directions.

All students and teachers have an unlimited access to Screencastify, a screen recording Chrome extension that works on Chromebooks and any Chrome Browser.

Teachers at PSB have other options beyond Screencastify for creating screencasts. They Include:

  • Apple Quicktime

  • Canvas Media Recorder

  • iPhone Video

  • Zoom Recordings

Canvas Media Recorder

Canvas has a great media recorder built into the content editor. Teachers can use video for lesson instructions, discussion prompts, announcements, and assignment feedback.

Media Recorder Tips:

  • HTML5 media recording only applies to Chrome and Firefox. If you are using Internet Explorer or Safari, you must use Flash video recording

  • You can record media for any length of time, but shorter media recordings are recommended. If your media is longer than 15 minutes, you may want to consider recording with Quicktime and uploading using an external provider such as YouTube.

  • Canvas videos also support caption files. Once you record and save your video, you can add captions to a video.

Share Phone Videos From Your Google Drive

To film action away from the computer, use your iPhone or Android Phone to record the video. Send the video to your Google Drive, share it with a Sharable Link and the video will play with YouTube like controls. It's a secure way to share video with students.

Zoom

Use Zoom as a screen recording tool. Record a lecture or presentation without students and publish for later viewing. Created by a BHS teacher.
