Padlet is a web app that allows users post notes on a digital wall. Educational applications of these virtual sticky notes are many. Images, links, videos, and documents, and Google Maps can all be collated on a "wall" that can be made public or private.
Brookline teachers can create Padlets in our district's Padlet for Schools organization. The Educational version of Padlet creates a safe and managed space for students to view and post to teacher Padlets.
Teachers should start here: https://brookline.padlet.org/. Teachers and student who log in with their Brookline Google accounts will instantly become part of Brookline's Padlet organization. Teachers can easily import exist Padlets into their Backpack account.
Teachers and student who login via the "Continue with Google" with their Brookline Google account will be added to our Padlet organization. Eventually, https://padlet.com/ will be blocked for students. It's important that teachers create new Padlets in their https://brookline.padlet.org/ account. Existing Padlets can easily be imported.
If students encounter this "You shall not pass!" message, they can click on the "Log in and retry" link and log in with their Brookline Google account.
Teachers can import selected or all Padlets from their padlet.com. account. While in your brookline.padlet.org account, launch the menu options by clicking on your name at the top right of your Padlet "home"
Imported Padlets will live in both locations (padlet.com and brookline.padlet.org). However, new changes will not be updated in both locations. It's best to import and then work only from brookline.padlet.org
Some users get stuck in "loop" when importing. It's a browser issue that doesn't seem to affect updated Chrome browsers. If stuck, help is available here: Why I am stuck in a loop when importing my padlets?
Check the settings of your Padlet before you share with students. The "gear" icon on the right side of Padlet will launch the settings.
Set the "Author and Timestamp" to "Show". That will prevent anonymous postings.
. Set the Content Moderation. Teachers can leave the default "Auto" which lets Padlet's AI based system tag inappropriate posts. Teachers can also manually approve all posts. The posts won't be visible until the teacher approves.
Teachers can also restrict post attachments (See image on right). Settings->Post Fields->Attachments. Unchecking the attachment type will mean they are not available to students.
A complete settings menu can be found here: Padlet Settings
Padlet's Sandbox is a digital collaborative space. It works very much like Google's Jamboard (which is no longer available). Teacher's can import Jamboard files into their brookline.padlet.org account. The imported Jamboards will retain their functionality. View the video for complete details.
Teachers should be sure to connect their Google Drive to their Padlet account. The integration allows the importing of Google Documents.
Teachers can import discussions from Microsoft's Discussion tool, Flip. Microsoft no longer supports Flip. Teachers have until 9/30/24 to access their existing Flip videos. Padet discussions offer all of the features of Flip discussions. View the video for complete details
When creating a Canvas assignment, teachers can give each student a blank copy of a Padlet or Sandbox.
