Using materials you have at home, create a homemade version of a book cover. You can choose a favorite book or just a book cover that you think will be fun to recreate. Post your version of the cover, along with the original here. Please be sure to name your photos with your student's name, so we can post the images together.
You can recreate a book cover using real people, like below.
Ice Cream Everywhere book cover
Ms Lechner's re-creation
Matilda book cover
Ms Newell's re-creation
Ms. Lechner and her husband used the ice cream already in the freezer and strawberries instead of cherries to recreate this book cover. Her husband didn’t want ice cream in his hair, so he skipped that. (No, they did not eat all this ice cream while making this scene!)
Ms Newell had to pile lots and lots of books to recreate her cover. She was lucky to have a blue dress to wear, just like Matilda.
You also can represent a book cover using only objects you have in your home.
Recreated cover for The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors by Drew Daywalt
As you can see, this recreated cover uses real objects, instead of the drawing that the illustrator Adam Rex made. Using real objects and leaving out the title makes this a representation of the book cover, not a copy.
