Welcome to the Jerry Kaplan Library at the Florida Ruffin Ridley School. The Library is a warm and welcoming place for learning, research, and recreational reading. Our mission is to help students become life-long readers, learners and library users. We also help students to thoughtfully access, evaluate, and use information and technology. I have been the librarian at FRR since 2016. I grew up in Florida and went to college at the University of Florida, where I studied English and specialized my degree in Children's Literature. That means I got to read Harry Potter - for class! Then I went to the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where I got my Master's Degree in Library Science. Before I came to Brookline, I worked in libraries at UF, UNC and Harvard University. I am happy to have ended up here. There is nothing I like more than matching the right book with the right reader.
In my free time, I like biking, knitting, traveling, and, of course, reading. I am also on a rowing team and practice almost every day after school during the rowing season.
Some of my favorite books are:
Bloomability by Sharon Creech (and all her other books)
Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey
Officer Buckle and Gloria by Peggy Rathmann
Touch Blue by Cynthia Lord
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Wonder by R.J. Palacio
Smile by Raina Telgemeier
And many more!
