The story of Ferdinand is a story about a gentle bull who loves smelling flowers more than fighting. One day, while he was sitting under a tree, a bee stung him, making him kick and look very tough. Men were nearby picking a bull for an upcoming bullfight in Madrid, Spain and chose Ferdinand believing he was tough. When it was time for the bullfight, Ferdinand was not fierce but stayed in the center of the ring smelling the flowers.
