Immediate Supervisor: Transportation Supervisor
Successful Completion of the School Bus Driver Instructor (SBDI) Course conducted by the Pupil Transportation Unit (PTU) and Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI)
Additional Requirements:
Must possess a valid Manitoba Class Licence for the class 1 or 2 licence and a School Bus Operator certificate for a minimum of 2 years; (see also EOG-P1);
Must provide the Division with a current clear abstract of his/her driving record to the Division and PTU;
The trainer is expected to maintain their own operator qualifications and be in good standing with the Division to ensure they can demonstrate all aspects of the Bus Driver job description during training sessions;
Must possess communication and human relations skills;
Must pass a prescribed physical examination administered by a licensed Physician approved or appointed by the Board, and reported on forms provided for this purpose;
Operate the school bus in a safe manner;
Report any mechanical or other defects on the bus immediately to the Head Mechanic/Shop Foreman;
Keep the bus in a clean and sanitary condition at all times;
Prepare reports as may be required on training conducted;
Attend safety seminars or safe driving courses when these are scheduled;
Have knowledge and comply with all Highway Traffic Act and school bus regulations and with other authorized School Division regulations; and,
Carry out such other related duties as may be assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities
The trainer is responsible for delivering on the job training of bus driver candidates based on school bus instructor procedures and direction from the Transportation Supervisor and PTU.
Training duties will be scheduled on an as-needed (casual) basis based on hiring and divisional priorities.
Scheduling new hire training and coverage for the trainers’ regular bus driver route will be determined by the Transportation Supervisor. Training shall be scheduled between regular bus routes whenever possible.
The trainer is not a supervisory position and does not have a direct reporting relationship with bus drivers. The trainer is responsible to report any incidents and concerns to the Transportation Supervisor.
