GFL-P0 - Mechanic - Job Description
SECTION G: Personnel
Immediate Supervisor: Head Mechanic / Shop Foreman
Qualifications
Should be licensed in one of the following trades, and or have work related experience:
Transport truck bus mechanic;
Heavy duty mechanic;
Automotive mechanic;
Must obtain a School Bus Inspection Mechanic Certificate;
Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License as a minimum;
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Personal Suitability
Must possess communication and human relations skills;
Must be self-motivated and be able to work on his/her own when required; and,
Must be physically capable of performing all the duties related to this position.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Head Mechanic/Shop Foreman, must work to maintain all Division school buses in a condition that provides for safety at all times and conforms to all federal, and provincial regulations and Division policies. While it is not expected that all Mechanics be responsible for the following duties, they should be able to perform and/or assist with them.
Description of Duties
Perform all scheduled maintenance on each unit as per rotational schedule and record in unit log book;
Perform six month inspections on units to comply with Provincial Regulations;
Fill out work order sheets as work is completed (record work performed and number of hours spent on each unit);
Record all parts consumed;
Repair all Division vehicles, lawn mowers, and snow blowers
Record every service performed in unit log book;
Maintain a clean and safe garage in a manner that will ensure safety for self and others;
Take safety precautions when servicing buses; and,
Perform other related duties as may be directed by the Head Mechanic or the Transportation Supervisor.
