GFI-P0 - Tradesperson - Job Description
SECTION G: Personnel
Immediate Supervisor: The Maintenance Foreman
Minimum Qualifications and Skills
Must be self-motivated and be able to work on his/her own whenever required;
Shall be a tradesman at a level somewhere between a first year apprentice and a journeyman;
Must be able to take direction from the Maintenance Foreman and make repairs and maintenance work in the schools of the Division as assigned;
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable;
Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License.
Responsibilities and Duties
Carpentry
Do carpentry repair (new installations, repair and remodelling) or finishing:
Minor roof repairs;
window and door replacement including walls if necessary;
Floor coverings;
Concrete work - forms etc.;
Cabinet and shelving - furnishings work; and,
Painting and drywall.
Electrical
All electrical work performed is to be subject to Hydro approval.
Electrical repair and replacement and maintenance including:
Perform maintenance and troubleshooting duties on electrical systems according to qualifications;
Extending circuits if required;
Ballast replacement;
Switch and plug in, motor replacement; and,
General preventative maintenance.
Plumbing
Repair, replacement and maintenance including:
Repairing taps and drains;
Replacing fixtures including hot water tanks, etc.
General
The individual should have knowledge of all aspects of the building trade:
Carry on with preventative maintenance schedule;
Have a good working relationship with all Custodians;
Accept other duties pertaining to maintenance of schools, grounds, and playground structures, or individual’s specific trade, as assigned;
In conjunction with the Maintenance Foreman, the Assistant, keep the maintenance vehicle stocked;
Clean equipment, vehicles, work areas and storage buildings;
Assist other maintenance crews as required;
Perform other job related duties as required; and,
In the absence of the Maintenance Foreman, shall assume the latter’s duties for which he/she is qualified.
The Tradesperson is to use a work order system in order to keep track of maintenance duties performed and maintain a filing system on these projects.
