Qualifications
Two to five years of repair experience in computer maintenance, and/or a recognized Computer Technician course, or equivalent.
Must be familiar with work capabilities and limitations of various computers.
Proficiency with current network configuration standards and Division server software.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of contemporary technology.
Ability to make emergency decisions concerned with power, equipment failure, and similar disturbances.
Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License.
Position Summary
The Network Administrator assists with the installation, operation and maintenance of all technical equipment, including IITV, in a condition of operating excellence and safety, so that full operational and educational use can be made of the equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Establish and maintain a current inventory of all hardware/software and peripherals in the Division. Review and update acquisition procedures and plans for Technology.
Assist with the development of an annual budget, and with the supervision of purchasing in accordance with the Division Technology Plan.
Provide technical support to maintain administrative and other divisional software.
Analyze and resolve end-user operational hardware and software computer-related problems in a timely fashion.
Provide end-user training in the administration/operational areas.
Communicate in person and electronically with users experiencing difficulties to determine and document problems.
Consult user guides, technical manuals and other documents to research and implement solutions.
Evaluate and install computer hardware, networking software, and operating systems software.
Implement data, software, and hardware security procedures.
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and administer the use of LAN, WAN, computer workstations and peripheral equipment in all buildings throughout the Division.
Assist other members of the Technology staff in any capacity whenever the need arises.
Perform some initial troubleshooting for IITV systems and other technologies related to Distance Learning: computers, faxes, scanners, and cameras. Perform minor repairs as applicable.
Assist Division Office and schools with the maintenance of their web sites.
Support and train staff in using software to build and maintain web sites such as Dreamweaver.
Synchronize school clocks intra-school and inter-Division.
Assume responsibility for one’s own professional growth and attend training conferences and workshops related to areas of responsibility.
Provide the IT Director with information and material to properly support the Division's technology. Assist the Director in the implementation and maintenance of the Division Technology Plan.
Assist in the supervision of the network to ensure smooth and efficient operation.
Provide technical assistance on Division-recommended computer applications.
Assist in software selection and review process.
Inspect all computers on an ongoing basis and confer with Principals (or designates) on repairs.
Cooperate with the IT Director in establishing guidelines for minor in-school repairs and emergency repairs.
Assume responsibility for the safe condition of computers, network connections and wiring, printers, and similar technologies in school facilities.
Recommend supplies and equipment for the support of maintenance projects.
Assist in maintaining equality and consistency of technology throughout the Division. Assist in developing, implementing, monitoring, and updating a long range plan that identifies building-specific and Division-specific needs and priorities.
Provide the IT Director with information of events of an unusual nature relating to assigned responsibilities.
Assist in the implementation of procedures in concert with federal and provincial laws, Division policies and procedures.
Assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the IT Director.
