Minimum Qualifications
Education/Qualifications
Master’s Degree in psychology (clinical or educational);
Must hold a School Clinician’s certificate issued by the Manitoba Department of Education and Advanced Learning or have provisional certification (i.e., doing coursework leading to certification);
Member in good standing of the Manitoba Association of School Psychologists or Psychologists' Association of Manitoba;
Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License.
Knowledge and Skills
Ability to effectively relate to and communicate with children, parents and professionals.
Ability to work as a part of a divisional/school clinical team and/or multi-disciplinary team.
Provide assessment and intervention recommendations to support intellectual, social-emotional, and behavioural development, as outlined in the DSM-5
Follow Provincial and Divisional policies and procedures regarding clinical specialized assessment, intervention and reporting.
Responsibilities
Work with minimum supervision;
Work with school teams and model strategies in classrooms;
Follow divisional and provincial procedures for specialized assessment;
Have strong organizational skills and manage a caseload;
Continually seek further professional development;
Demonstrate confidentiality and professionalism that respects the privacy and integrity of students and families.
Description of Duties
Complete specialized psychological assessments of referred students and interpret diagnostic information and education programming information to parents/guardians, students (where appropriate), school division personnel and other community professionals as appropriate.
Prepares and submits written reports in accordance with division timelines.
Participate in Student Support team meetings to provide recommendations related to learning strategies, interventions and/or specialized programming.
Collaborate with school division personnel in developing appropriate student specific plans (SSPs).
Collaborate with educators, parents and other professionals in adapting students’ learning environments to improve identified problem areas.
Provide direct treatment services for children in crisis situations as required and facilitate and coordinate ongoing treatment through referral services and the involvement of community resources.
Monitor and evaluate educational programs and provide ongoing support and consultation to personnel delivering these programs and services.
Maintain clinical documentation and promote communication among disciplines and with other agencies.
Work with the Student Services Team to facilitate professional learning for school staff and parents;
Provide support with Threat Risk Assessment, Crisis Response, and/or Tragic Events, as needed;
Perform other duties as assigned.
