Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in speech and language pathology;
Valid license through the College of Audiologists and Speech – Language Pathologists of Manitoba (CASLPM).
Must hold a School Clinician’s certificate issued by the Manitoba Department of Education and Advanced Education or have provisional certification (i.e., doing coursework leading to certification).
Must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License.
Knowledge and Skills
Relevant school and clinical experience working with a broad spectrum of students with communication and/or language delays.
Assist school personnel in screening and identifying students who may need a referral.
Familiarity with a wide range of assessments.
Determine individualized intervention goals and establish strategies and techniques to facilitate development of the targeted skills.
Familiarity with using assistive technology to support student communication (software and speech generating devices).
Able to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to respect confidentiality.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability and willingness to provide professional learning workshops to staff.
Demonstrated skills in caseload management.
Responsibilities
Complete specialized assessments of students with speech and/or language needs and interpret diagnostic treatment and education programming information to parents, school division personnel, and other community professionals.
Collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals in adapting students’ learning/living environments to improve identified problem areas.
Collaborate with School Division personnel in developing appropriate student specific plans (SSPs).
Train and provide resources to Teachers and Educational Assistants in the implementation of programs and recommendations.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the programs and provide ongoing support and consultation to personnel delivering them.
Participate actively in developing and delivering professional development in-services and workshops for school personnel, parents, and other community professionals.
Provide consultative/collaborative services for children with identified speech/language disorders and facilitate ongoing treatment through referral services and the involvement of community resources.
Maintain clinical documentation and promote communication among disciplines and with other agencies.
Be familiar with and adhere to Division and CASLPM expectations, procedures and policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
